Hardy Heron nVidia Drivers
25 Abril 2008
Yesterday I’ve updated my Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy system to the new 8.04 Hardy Heron. The only problem I faced after the install was with the nVidia drivers.
At first I’ve tried envy-gtk but for some reason it didn’t work for me. The drivers were installed by envy but they refused to work. Then, I decided to install them by hand and here is the process, in nine easy steps, in case someone has the same problem.
- Download the drivers from nVidia website to your home.
- Open a terminal and type:
sudo chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12.pkg1.run - Hit CTRL+ALT+F1 to exit from the X windows system and go to a shell.
- Login with your username/password.
- type:
sudo killall gdm - type:
sudo ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12.pkg1.run - Follow the installer instructions. It’s really easy and it only ask you a couple of questions.
- Reboot.
- If your X doesn’t work properly open a terminal and type
nvidia-xconfig.Then hit CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to restart the XWindow System.
If you have tried envy at first, remember to remove the driver packages installed by it, because they conflict with the nVidia driver.

Hey,
Thanks for the post.
However, on the NVidia wesbite, I couldn’t find nvidia drivers for Nvidia GeForce Go 6150.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
